Is it normal practice to ask for 40% of the total costs upfront

Posted by Sharon Coates, on
We have had a quote from a national rendering service to remove and render two exterior walls. The company wants between 20 and 40% of the money on agreeing to the job is this normal practice please. Even though the job is not due to start for another 4 months.

They will want the money for materials upfront normally, but not 4 months upfront. I'd say you will pay the merchant for the materials and will pay him the rest on completion. Then at least you have everything if he lets you down, if he doesn't agree then I'd choose someone else
