Curtain Rails will not stay up.

Posted by Dan Stokes, on
I have an old victorian terrace house and we have an issue when trying to put up curtain rails, the walls appear to be quite weak and crumbly and the poles do not stay up. We have tried using various fillers and glues etc to solve the problem but once again the rails have fallen down in 2 of the bedrooms and the walls are looking quite messy due to all the attempts to put them back up, any idea who or what type of tradesman i would need to get these fixed?

Hi Dan, Due to the nature of the walls in old Victorian homes you need to drill in to the bricks not the plaster, if this still isn't possible you will need to inject a 2 part solvent Glue then apply a bolt which you can then fix too. Theses old hose are fragile, even plaster won' hold it , maybe cement but that still need something to stick to and if the surface is dry and dusty then cement will just fall out. Hope this helps.
