Plastering expense query

Posted by Victoria Harris, on
Hi. We live in an Edwardian semi detached house (high ceilings throughout and lots of decorative coving downstairs). We are paying a day rate of £160 per plasterer. Some days we have three plasterers working. We live in Birmingham in the West Midlands. We have a budget and detailed schedule for the whole renovation and are removing all wallpaper ourselves but costs of plastering are a lot more than we anticipated. Do you have any tips to keep costs to a minimum. Most walls need skimming and ceilings need plastering or boarding where there is no detailing. Thank you!

Hi Victoria £160 a day is a fair price for a good plasterer . However they shouldn't charge £160 for a Labourer. Ask how many plasterers and how many Labour. Then negotiate a price for the Labour . That seems fair . Regards Mark
