Is it okay to plaster over wires where the backing box is bigger than the front plate of an electrical socket?

You will need bonding plaster then a coat of multi finish plaster

yes you can plaster over the wires as long as they are covered and not bare as wet plaster is conductive and you will get electric shock. I would only plaster up to the box and not in it. the best scenario is to buy the right front plate to fit the back box
