MIchelle, If he removed the Radiator and gave the impression he knew what he was doing and then he is directly responsible for any damage, so either ask him for his Liability Insurance Details and make a claim against them or he pays directly to you cost of cleaning or replacing carpet or if he does neither of these then take him to the small claims court. But if he asked if you wanted him to remove the Radiator and you said Yes, then this is different has indirectly he has passed the responibility onto you has his job is not Plumbing. This might make things very difficult for you to claim compensation. Bill Pipe Dreams Plumbing Services, Bournemouth, Dorset

Hi Michelle, I agree with my pears, as you asked him to remove the rad without inspecting his/her qualifications the court wont be sympathetic towards your claim.

Michelle bear in mind whether you asked him to remove it without checking his qualifications I would believe you should still be able to claim because there is a lot of older tradesmen that do not have any qualifications therefore they could pass any accident they have onto the customer everytime by saying that the customer directly asked them to do the job. Im not 100% on this but I think this would not stop you from claiming from his as it was directly his fault

Hi Michelle when a radiator needs removing it's is normal proceedure to get it removed by a qualified plumber and you would not have encountered this unfortunate problem. Unfortunatley other tradesmen like your decorators appear to do this job and they have no expertise I'n plumbing and seem to think that the removal of a rad is relatively simple and then accidents happen when they go ahead because they do not know the correct procedure. As a plumber I can guarantee that this would not happen if I was to have removed the rad. Therefore the decorator should not have removed it as he is obviously not competent and should have insurance and you will claim off his insurance if not you are a little stuck and need to try and get them to personally compensate you. No excuse other than not being competent is acceptable because as I said a plumber would not have this problem as we are professional at what we do. I would successfully remove your rad but make a mess of your decorating therefore I would not undertake the decorating. Good luck neil
