Hello Dee, I had exactly the same problem and lived with it for months before I got a plumber to come take a look. It literally took him 5 minutes to change the valve and it cost next to nothing. Take Williams advice.

Dee, It sounds like it is your Toilet Ball Valve, Replace the Inlet Valve and it probably stop. If not then you have Water Hammer on a tap somewhere or a long redundant cold leg. Bill Pipe Dreams Plumbing Services, Bournemouth, Dorset
