John, Without knowing what kind of water system you have, the type of shower valve and how its been piped, it is impossible to give advice. I would suggest that you get back the Bathroom Fitter and get then to resolve issue has they should not have left it in that state or at least they should have explained what extra would need to be done to rectify problem.
