Isolation taps for concealed pipe work

Posted by Andrew Doughty, on
I'm planning a bathroom refurb. The shower mixer will be recessed into tiling, the loo and basin wall hung. Where would the isolation taps go if everything is hidden behind tiles to keep the room water tight? Do I need a box in the hall outside?

Andrew, There are a couple of things that you need to be aware off if you have everything concealed; 1. You need to make sure that there is a method to get to the Toilet Cistern to exchange parts when they fail, which they will without having to start riping tiles of wall, etc. 2. The isolators for the Basin will be inside the Basin wall Hung Pedestal or Dome 3. The isolators for the Toilet will be located by the Toilet Cistern 4. If the Shower tray is on a raised base then Isolators can be under Platform and accessible from removing plinth. If floor level, then if the pipes are coming down from a loft above then Isolators can be fitted in loft, otherwise you will need to locate a suitable point to fit them and have access. 5. Also, pipe work will eventually fail or fittings will go, e.g. seals, washers, etc. so, you need to be aware that if all hidden behind tiles or in walls then in time you will have to deal with these problems, so make sure you have plenty of spare tiles.
