Improving water pressure in a converted house - best options

Posted by Simon Allen, on
I own a flat in a converted house and share a mains water supply from the road with the other flat in the house. At the moment the mains splits in their house and my stop cock is in their flat. This means that I cannot get a water meter fitted (as I do not have a central stop cock in my flat, recently verified) but also that my water pressure is affected when the neighbor uses their water. I think that a new water mains is the best approach to this so that I can get better pressure and a meter but have no idea what this would involve or how expensive this would be and if this is even the best approach so would love some suggestions/answers.

You could have a plumber pop around and see if a stopcock can be installed inside your property, with reasonable space provisions for a water meter to be fitted after (it must be before it tees off anywhere around the house/shared outside taps exclude the fitment of a water meter too). Without seeing the property it's difficult to gauge if a new pipe run from the street to your home is the best solution. There are devices you can fit to the mains to increase/stabilize pressure (salamander homeboost is one) and it could prove to be a minimal fuss/cost effective solution. I hope this helps, Jan SouthCoastBoilers

Hello Simon, What better service than to get it looked at for free. The service in getting advice/survey is free and you should get 3 tradesmen to quote so you should use it. Tradesmen pay for the opportunity to quote on your job. It is important to give tradesmen contacting you the opportunity to do so, the advice you receive is free. You are not obliged to use any of them. Regards Michael
