Water hammer is usually caused by the inlet valve on the toilet cistern this can be in your house or a neighbors house but still causing water hammer in your property cheers Ray
You may have some sort of debris in the pipeline or if pipes vibrates it could be a faulty filler valve to the cold water header tank or toilets cisterns
Hi Maryann Quite often it's a very simple fix. If you had had any plumbing work done recently it may well be the balance air over water in the system. If so try this: Turn your main stop cock off so that should shut water off to all taps. If you have a cold water storage tank in the attic this may well be more difficult for you but if you can find the shut off valve to that then turn that off. If your unsure just go with main stop cock and see if the water stops at the taps within a few seconds or slows to a dribble. Ok so once that's off open the lowest taps in the house and keep it open, now open a tap at the highest point just to get any further water out. Right all done close all taps and open your main stop cock. Now go to the highest point in the houseand open taps. Water will splutter at first as the air passes through now close and repeat with all taps in the house from highest first to lowest. That usually does the job! Good luck Shaun
