I live in a two-storey ex local authority maisonette and the downstairs tennat has contacted the Council about a leak in her bedroom ceiling which she claims is coming from our washing machine. There is no evidence of water in my flat, the cabinets do not appear to be warped nor is there any smell of stagnant water in my kitchen. The Council claim to have carried out dye tests on the coummunal walkway to the front of both our properties and say these do not show in the flat below and therefore indicate the leak is from an internal source, possibly our kitchen. They have sent a rather intimidating letter asking that we instruct a qualified plumber to check and repair if necessary.
Is it possible that her leak emanates from somewhere else? We have noticed water pooling in the roof of our bathroom and wonder if this is the source. How likely is this sceanrio?
