Which shower is most suitable for me?

Posted by Danny Susanna, on
Cold water tank is in loft (floor above). Hot water tank in airing cupboard on same floor as bathroom. Current hot water pressure is not great (but this is currently acceptable with a cheap shower attachment linked to bath taps). Is a mixer shower most suitable? Is a pressure pump required or optional? Is fitting a mixer shower cheaper, less work than fitting an electric shower? thanks for any advice on this.

Hi Danny I would suggest to install a pump to existing hot water cylinder with thermostatic mixer shower. You could install electric shower too but pressure won't be better that installation of a pump. Advantage of fitting electric shower is when anythink go wrong with hot water tank you would still have hot water from your shower. Disadvantage of electric shower is lack of performance during cold months ( mains water is cooler ) Best regards Rafal

You will have a cold main in your attic that feeds your storage tank. Tee into that and fit man electric shower so you have a back up if hot water ever fails. You will need to get an electrician to run a cable from a desperate breaker but these will probably be cheaper than buying a pump ax you would need to supply power source for that anyway. The electric shower will be far less problematic and also less upheaval to install.
