Noise and vibration in cold water basin tap

Posted by IanW , on
An upstairs cold water basin tap was dripping, so I decided to fit an isolation valve on its supply pipe so that I could dismantle the tap and clean the ceramic cartridge within. Now, when the valve is open and the tap is closed and the shower or toilet or washing machine are used, there is a LOT of vibration and noise in the tap and its supply pipe, so much so that I keep the valve closed unless I really need to use the tap. Any advice as to the cause and solution?

Hi Ian sounds like air lock, try this turn off stop cock all taps closed start upstairs first open cold water sink and bath flush toilet, leave taps in open position, open all down stairs taps remove washing machine hose and open valve to drain the same if you have dishwasher, close all taps starting downstairs need two people to do this one person to regulate stop cock other person to open taps, all taps closed, the nearest tap to stop cock crack open so it will just let a small flow through, open stop cock the same way small flow only, let it bleed through to first tap you cracked open when you get a flow through continue to next tap and this will eventually bleed all the air from the system good luck
