Options for replacing a hot water cylinder

Posted by Ben Barker, on
I live in a building with a communal boiler. The hot water tank is fed from a cold water header tank, and then heated by an internal coil from the main communal boiler. The boiler is run by the council, but the tank is my responsibility. Should it be required, both low pressure tank cold water, and mains cold water, runs through the cabinet containing the cylinder. The tank itself is bare copper, with an insulating blanket. It has a diameter of 450mm and a height of 900mm. The tank sits in an airing cupboard, with little extra width, but plenty of spare height. The tank sits on the same floor as the bathroom - and I find that it can only supply enough hot water for about 1/2 of a hot bath, before you have to let it warm back up again. Before I look for plumbers, I wanted to get an idea for what was possible..so my questions are: 1) Would a larger tank help here 2) Assuming it would, what are the options in terms of mains fed or tank fed, vented or unvented etc... 3) What kind of an impact on functionality and complexity would the decisions taken in (2) make...
