Mercury spillage in bath

Posted by Gaby Scott, on
An old fashioned domestic mercury thermometer dropped in our bath and broke. The head of the thermometer and some mercury went down. We have been told by Toxbase that the U bend needs to be removed and replaced safely. Is this a job for a normal plumber or do we need a hazardous waste specialist? Any contacts for professionals who can do this safely would be appreciated.
