Earthing

Posted by Michael Kestin, on
What sort of earthing does a house need to have and because of the way everything is connected does a single connecting earth run through the entire pipe work system?

If you can see the main electric supply cable coming into your property from the ground then the main earth will generally be taken from that cable or from the side of the fuse cut-out that you'll be able to see near your meter. If your main supply cables enter your property from a pole above the ground then you likely have an Earth rod in the gruond somewhere close to the external of your house, normally a little green or black box with a warning label on the front cover. Any incoming services (gas, water, oil etc) then each require a 10mm Earth cable connected to them, these connections needing to be within 600mm of the service meters, or at the point of entry of the pipework to the building on the consumers side.
