Does a plumber have to give me a receipt for work carried out?

Posted by Madeleine Rawlings, on
I paid cash for two jobs and expected receipts to follow in the post but I have not received them. I also expected a landlords safety certificate but didn't receive that either. I have since asked him for these but he wants an extra £50 is this correct or even legal? What can I do?

A good tradesman would always leave a receipt for any work carried out. Also if the landlords safety cert was a seperate job then £50 seems to be on the mark, depending how many appliances were being tested.

Only if you asked for them at the time, a landlord certificate is a job in its own right and has to be paid for
