Top floor radiator not heating

Posted by Zoe Patterson, on
The radiator on the top floor (3rd) of our house isn’t heating up at all. We had our boiler engineer out to have a look who said it was likely to be sludge in the system. We then cleaned the whole central heating system out followed with an inhibitor. This seemed to solve the problem as it was finally starting to heat, however a day or two later it wasn’t working again. We repeated the process and again, the same thing. Heat for a day or two and nothing since! All other radiators are heating perfectly. We have checked the TRV valve and the pipe is red hot and the pin under the thermostat cover moves up and down so isn’t stuck. The lockshield pipe is cold. Is there anything else we could try ourselves as the thought of paying for a professional power flush isn’t appealing?! Thanks!

You could try turning all the other rads off at both ends make sure that the top rad is fully open at both ends run the Heating and see if the top rad gets hot if it does leave this situation for about an hour or so then start to open the other rads slightly until all rads are on we balance the system by turning the lockshield valve on each one down on rads that get hotter than others Hope this helps
