Boiler pressure issues

Posted by Kate , on
We were on holiday when ‘beast from the east’ hit and had decided to turn our heating down to 10 degrees before we left. When we returned, our boiler pressure had dropped and was showing F22 error. We topped it up and the heating clicked back on but the pressure went sky high and we had to bleed all of our radiators to get it back down. Since, we’ve been having similar problems. Overnight, the boiler lost pressure and was showing F22 this morning. I topped it up so the heating came on and when I checked about an hour later, the pressure had shot up to 4.1. I bled a radiator (which I think could be problematic) and it has reduced to 0.8, which I have now topped up to 1. We have a Vaillant combi boiler. Thanks

Hi Kate f22 indicates low water pressure I would think that you have a leak somewhere in the Heating system it would have to be located and repaired hopefully this would sort the problem out

Hi it is most likely a failed pressure vessel in the boiler, it is perfectly normal for the pressure to go up some (to 2/2.5 bar) when the boiler operates (hot water expands) and there is a pressure vessel to control/help maintain this, if the pressure vessel fails then the pressure can go too high and the boilers Pressure Release Valve (PRV) will operate and relive the pressure (let water out) when the system cools it will then drop too low and not allow the boiler to refire. Will need a heating engineer to look at replacing the built in pressure vessel or installing a side loaded unit next to the boiler.
