Washing machine waste pipe issues

Posted by Nick J, on
Had a plumber round a few months back to install a washing machine into a utility room. The waste pipe goes into a drain from a guttering downpipe. It has all been working OK for last few months until recently the drain is overflowing when the washing machine empties. Is it simply my drain needs unblocking or has the waste pipe been installed wrong? I have read waste water can only go down certain drains (sorry I'm a total novice)

In the first instance you need to have a look in the drain and see if it is blocked. You may be getting small amounts of fluff coming through from the washing machine that may have built up.

One of these outlets is going into the wrong place Rainwater and foul water should go into separate drains This should really be looked at by a plumber and sorted out for you
