Replaced pipe work for radiator

Posted by Nicola Campbell, on
Our tradesmen replaced an old radiator for us in the dining room and cut into the pipe work in the cement and replaced the pipe work with new pipes and put a compression nut to connect the old and new piping. The nut became loss and the radiator leaked under our carpet. The tradesmen came back and tightened the nut. When I asked if he could solder the nut so it wouldn’t leak again he said he couldn’t solder compression nuts. Please could you advice us because we want to put wooden flooring down and we’re worried that the pipe might leak again. Many thanks

You can’t solder joints if there is any water in the pipe Personally I wouldn’t like to use a compression fitting in this situation I would either make sure I could drain down all the water out of this pipeline and then solder a joint or use a plastic speed fit fitting
