Groaning Pipes

Posted by Lucy S, on
About 6 weeks ago my water pipes started making a loud groaning noise whenever the a tap was turned on, the washing machine was filling, the toilet had been flushed or the shower turned on. There also seems to be a slight vibration in the pipes. The groaning noise stops if I turn the tap off then on again, or, if it’s when the toilet is flushed/shower is on, I open and close a tap. A plumber suggested turning on cold tap closest to stoptap on full then fully opening and closing the stoptap as there may be air in the mains supply. I did this and it helped for a few days but it then started again. I reported to my water company who came out to investigate and they have suggested replacing the stoptap as it is completely seized and a washer may be loose, which is causing the issue - I had previously been opening and closing an isolation valve rather than the stoptap apparently... I have no problem doing this (and it probably needs to be done for the future) but just wondered if anyone had any other ideas before I call out my plumber again? Thanks in advance!
