Shower Waste Pipe Design

Posted by Stephen Docker, on
My shower in a new build home is gurgling, flow stop starts, causing basin to overflow. We have had the main drains checked and there is no blockage. Builder has now started to inspect the installation inside the house. - What is the required fall of a shower drain i.e. mm drop per meter of run? - The shower drain t pieces into the toilet drain 4" pipe. However this is into a near horizontal section not the vertical stack and the shower drain joins the toilet drain itself nearly on the horizontal. Is it wise to t-piece like that, as perhaps toilet waste could hit the joining pipe? - What is the required fall of the toilet drain i.e. mm drop per meter of run? - Any other ideas why this might be happening would be appreciated, we also completely removed the loft vent durgos but this had no affect, Much appreciated anyone with this info. Cheers Steve

Required fall on foul water waste pipes is 1:40 So the problem you have could be one of many things A blockage of some kind ie the tiler pouring water with grout residue in it down the waste pipe this then goes off solid in the pipe Incorrect waste pipe size Long run if pipe work not supported correctly and then sagging Incorrect fall on the waste pipe You could try fitting an anti vac trap on the hand basin this would help putting air behind the water
