I have a very old toilet system in downstairs wc can this be replaced with a new enclosed small toilet or would it have to the same model thank you

Hi Melinda and yes, given there is sufficient space and access the old toilet can be replaced with a close-coupled one, also the overflow pipe would be removed as irrelevant on new models. Personally I'd charge about £250 labour only for the job, depending on travelling distance, access, parking, new toilet type and model and so many other factors.
