i would try a vent cap first as aavs are usually found indoors, AAVs can be a great solution for venting problems, but should never be the first choice. In fact, they should be the absolute last possible choice.

I have a pipe on the roof which I think is a soil vent pipe. The cap seems to be missing - do I need to put an air admittance valve on it or will an ordinary vent cap do? Cheers.
