Posted by John Darnbrook, on
I have got black mould growing around the windows of my Bedroom. I need someone to come in and remove it whilst also treating the walls and windows to stop it coming back. Is there any tradesman in Birmingham capable of offering this service?

Black mold likes clean water to breed in.condensation is perfect and if you treat the condensation you will eradicate the mould.double glazing is usually a factor in this as it seals the house and doesnt sllow moisture to escape. Install trickle vents in the windows, use sn extractor for cooking and in the bathroom and avoid using a tumble dryer unless it is ventilated properly.humans expire on average a pint of fluid a day so you can see why this is a problem. The only truly efective method of eradicating this problem is with a positive pressure fan which we fit in a lot of buildings with simular problems but with install these average around a thousand pounds.hope this has helped regards dave price rew service

Yes Richard is right the mould can be treated but identifying the source of the damp is critical before treatment

Good morning John, The black mould will be growing due to excess moisture in the room. The mould needs to be removed and prevented for reoccurrence. The mould can be removed with a propriety mould cleaner available from a decorators trade centres or the likes of a thick bleach. To stop future mould growth the source of damp will need to be identified, this is generally poor ventilation, lack of heating, lack of insulation in the walls or roof etc. Mould resistant paints are available but I would recommend attempting to identify the route cause, I use a moisture meter when inspecting properties. I inspected one job recently where the exterior wall was a single skin wall and moisture was entering the building as the wooden deck outside was gathering vegetation around the outside. This needed clearing away and sealing the lower wall with a liquid damp proof membrane. Suggest you seek the advise from both a good decorator and possibly a builder, should you feel moisture is coming in from outside. All the best, Richard
