Is it safe to remove an asbestos cold water tank

Posted by Sara Macdonald, on
My survey states that's there is an asbestos cold water tank in the loft space that needs replacing for health reasons. Is it safe to do? How much would it cost to remove and replace with something safe?

Not safe to remove by you!! Rather than seek the services of an asbestos removal company who will be very expensive, source a scrap Removal Company who also has an asbestos removal licence. They will save you a fortune!!

Strictly speaking asbestos is safe if left undisturbed and not broken up. The only sure way to know is to have it assessed by a specailised contractor who is registered to assess its full risks and work with Asbestos. They will advise on which course is best to comply with the survey and advise on it removal or encapsulation is required.

Hi Sara, as others have said, you need a company who specialise in hazardous waste removal Your local council will have a list of approved contractors. the main problem is that it is unlikely that it can be removed from the loft in one piece. ON NO ACCOUNT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE IT YOURSELF. Also do not use anyone who offers to do it for you 'on the cheap', if they are not licensed. regards, pete.

Hi Sara It is safe until asbestos is in one piece as asbeatos dust can be harmful I would suggest to find local asbestos removal company with a licence as asbestos can not be thrown to houshold tip site So please ask anyone who will do a job for a licence first Regards Rafal
