We have an original fireplace in our home which we've never used since moving in 10 years ago. We want to use this fireplace next winter but we've been told (by a chimney sweep as it went) that we'll need to install "fire bricks" before we can use it. What would you recommend as the best way for us to ensure we can use the fireplace safely - is putting in firebricks something anyone can attempt or does it need a professional (and do we even need to do this)?
