Our next door neighbours are having a 2-storey extension built to replace their existing precast concrete garage. The outer wall of this will be 1 metre from our property ie. the 3-foot passageway and fence alongside our 2-storey extension. Also the ground level of our property is some 18 inches above our neighbours' and it is therefore likely that the new foundations will be deeper than those of our extension. Under the terms of the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 would you advise appointing a surveyor to oversee this work? If so how should we proceed?
