Corroded wall ties to be replaced

Posted by Anna Lamb, on
I live in a 2 story terrace house built around 1900. The decorator who fixed the cracks in our cornice has advised that the vertical ties at front & back of the house have likely corroded & need replaced. I believe he's probably correct as there is a 2 inch gap between porch and wall and we have bad drafts at outside walls. which trade would carry out the repair, builder, stone mason, roofer? And should I instruct a structural engineer to do a report before appointing a tradesman, or would tradesman arrange this? Lastly, is this a messy job, and as I'm terraced is it likely the whole row of houses needs fixed or will it just be me & next door neighbour (I can see they have a gap as well). Thanks.

Hi Anna if it is the wall ties that need replacing that can be done not a problem if the porch is coming away from the wall then it maybe that those walls are not tied into the existing walls I would be happy to take a look for you or you can go with a structural engineer and I would be happy to work of his recommendation please request me and I will be happy to help
