Tiling on Thistle Bonding Coat

Posted by Chris Fitzjohn, on
Removed an area of blown plaster in the bathroom directly above the taps of the bath (600x600mm patch perhaps) and also areas around the window where it fell out when removing the window linings. These have been bonded back in with Thistle Bonding Coat flush with the surrounding areas. Can these be tiled over directly, or do they need a skim coat? Most information online suggests never to tile directly on bonding plaster, but when asking tillers and plasterers, they seem to be happy to do so. Any input would be great, thanks

Hi Chris, as long as you use a suitable primer on the area before you start it will be fine to tile directly on to.
