French doors failing to keep out draught

Posted by Kay Percival, on
I have two double-glazed French doors with a Juliette balcony. The door on one side seems to have either dropped or the seal has gone. I can feel a definite draught from the bottom of the door and can put my fingers in a gap at the top of the door when closed. Any recommendations? Is it simply a seal, do they need rehanging or (worst case scenario) replacing?

Hello Kay, It would depend on the age of the doors, they can be readjusted a a very low cost. Put your job on rated people at a budget of £100 and you will get a good response Make sure they are FENSA approved. Regards Michael

Hi Kay Some times pvcu doors do drop over a period of time , they can be adjusted on the hinge side , this might fix your problem with out the need to replace them , how ever it does depend on the age of the doors and the size of the gap , and if they have been adjusted before You can also use a certas registered company as well as fensa , how ever you would only need that if you were replacing the doors as it is building regulations , a simple adjustment can be done by a skilled handy man or service engineer Regards Tim harris Md Cinda windows

Hi Kay, Most doors can be adjusted to close up any gaps depending on how big the gaps are in the first place? Additional draft excluder can also be installed or having some additional door stop installed if the gap is excessive may also work? I hope this advice helps you to resolve your problem. Regards, Darren, Red Security.

Hi Kay it sounds like the door sash has dropped so you should get the company back who fitted them as you should have a warranty
