Can an electric cable for a shower be enclosed by plastic trunking

Posted by Marc Fernandes, on
I had an electric shower installed recently. The power cable came out from the wall and was then partially enclosed by trunking which subsequently opened up. Is this trunking method of containment safe and legal?

Hi Marc As long as cable is fitted under BS7671 17 th edition standards you should not be worry about. Trunking is allowed to be fitted in a bathroom as long as main cable is fully fitted inside shower unit and terminals are not visible and seal. I think that your new shower required a new cable fitted and your walls was tiled already so engineer did not want to disturb surface ( lack of same tiles etc) that's why he hide cable inside trunking. I hope this can help Best regards Rafal
