Hello Mike, Insurance is a must. Guarantees are worth nothing unless the company is going to be around for some time (so you must check them out) Regards Michael

It all depends mike people use rated from large companies to one man bands one safeguard you should always look for is public liability insurance without that it can be risky look for a tradesman who's had lots off good ratings but as safeguards go I don't think you've any all rated does is sells us tradesman jobleads it's the tradesman you need the safeguards with..
Hi Mike, Peter's advice is spot on here. We have a handy FAQ on our main site which answers your question in more detail: http://www.ratedpeople.com/c/help#do-you-screen. When choosing a tradesman from those who have quoted, we will send you emailed links to their individual profile pages. I would encourage you to check relevant qualifications (for example a Part P qualification for an electrician will not be relevant for a handyman), past work and ratings from previous Rated People customers. Many tradesmen have portfolios of previous work which they can share with you should you ask for it. This information plus your personal impression and the quotes themselves should help you make an informed choice of which tradesman to choose. Should you find a tradesman to be unsatisfactory, we have a customer support team on call between 9am and 6pm Monday to Friday, who will be there to advise you on the best way to proceed in each individual case. They can be contacted via the following link: http://www.ratedpeople.com/contact-us/contact-us-form. Best Wishes, Natalie, The Ask an Expert Team
