Can I easily add a new bathroom to a potential home?

Posted by Carly Broomfield, on
Hi - I am looking to buy a house built in 1925 with only one bathroom situated upstairs. I would only buy the property if I am confident that an additional bathroom could be added to the house. I would like to repurpose an existing small bedroom/study however this is on the other side of the house and whilst on the same floor is not adjacent to the existing bathroom. Could the water and sewage pipes be extended to accommodate and is this an okay plan? I am not sure how get a good level of confidence before submitting an offer.

Hi Carly, This would be a doable job, however it will come at a cost. Generally a standard bathroom refurb ranges from around 4k-8k and thats not including the cost of your desired bathrokm suit. To create a bathroom from scratch I would estimate adding approximately 30% to that cost. We have a saying in the trade "anything is possible if the budget is right!" I would strongly reccomend checking the existing electrics and plumbing in the property as this is something I find is overlooked when purchasing a property and often leads to the new owner forking out alot of unplanned cash to rectify before they even get down to the aesthetics of the building. Look us up and maybe we can aid you in your new venture and possibly save you some money and headache. @PlusDecorInteriors
