Minimum access allowance around doorways?

How much area do I need to leave on a landing area to allow access to a bedroom which will enable good fire exit allowance and scope to move furniture in and out? I would like to knock down the current wall and extend the bedroom out onto part of the landing if possible. Thank you.

Impossible to answer without seeing the job but as a rough guide its usually the door width square it depends on so many factors, why not give building control a ring they are very helpfull and wil guide you to the necessary part of the building regs that you need to conform to.The building reg documents are available from hmso bookshops or online
