Remove a wall between the lounge and kitchen

Remove a wall between kitchen/lounge how do we know if we need an RSJ. The structural engineers I have ctc seem very expensive.

First of you need to find out if its a load beating wall and if so you must by law get a structural engineer because he will give you the calculations of the required steel needed to support the load bearing wal and also by rights you will also need building control a question of whether you use theses facilities is your call hope this helpsl

I agree with William. So many people try to cut corners because of expense But my belief is that in building cutting corners is not a saving so not an option. A builder can tell you if it's load bearing and if it is then you do need the engineer to Do calculations and need building control. Rod
