Water damage

Posted by Richard Ward, on
What type of tradesman could repair my house? Rainwater has got in somewhere during the recent heavy rain, it is coming through the brickwork around the front door (not the door itself), damaging the plaster.

Good afternoon Richard, we have dealt with similar sounding problems during the recent heavy downpours. Often the mortar joints and bricks themselves absorb the moisture and during heavy, persistent rainfall the can become saturated. The answer is to check your existing pointing to make sure it is still sound. Run a key along the face of it, if it crumbles it needs renewing. Once this is done you can use a breathable water sealing product on both the brickwork and the mortar joints. This will prevent any further water penetration whilst allowing the brickwork to dry out. If you are in Kent give us a call. FocalPoint Repointing
