Can you paint the interior of uPVC windows?

Posted by Roger Wilde, on
I have some rosewood colour uPVC windows in a room where they are completely the wrong colour - is is possible to paint them with white gloss paint? If so, what would be the best way to go about it?

Hi Roger. You can use Sikkens Satura Plus or International do a upvc primer which can then be painted over with a colour and finish of your choice. Rich

Hello... The first product that you need to use is a upvc paint. This will stick to the window frames, then undercoat and gloss. If just undercoat and gloss are used it will peel off in time making the windows look awful.

Hi Roger. Yes it's possible but will take some time! Firstly it's best to use a very fine finishing paper such as 180. (Sandpaper) Carefully rub down the upvc, very lightly and in the direction of the frame not across it. Then apply a upvc primer/undercoat. Let that dry over night. Then apply an oil based undercoat. Let that dry over night. Slightly rub down again with 180 sandpaper, clean with white spirit and then apply Your gloss. There is an alternative to this which is to use specialist upvc paint only, but this isn't as long lasting And doesn't look as good. Hope this helps! All the best. Richard

Most certainly, dulux have pvc paint, I would also suggest Sikkens Satura plus. Has to be done in summer. Call into a trade centre and ask for the manufacturer recommendations. Do not go to bnq homebase etc, make sure its a trade centre

Hi Larraine, I agree with Brian, you need to use a UPVC paint, available from Dulux or other paint manufacturers and you will be able to paint them white. Chris.

Hi Roger It is not ideal to paint over UPVC but if you do go ahead with this then you will need to prime the surface prior to any finishing coats. Follow all preparation recommendations by manufacturer as the key is in the preparation ! There are various primers available on the market now and most decorating stores (not BQ or Homebase) will be vary helpful Tony

Hi Roger, I agree with the others, you will need a upvc primer/paint to base it with and then your choice of top coat, there are Plastikote spray paints, but i have never been asked to paint upvc so do not know how they all perform/ last. you are best to go to a Dulux/ Crown centre or an independant paint suppliers for advice.
