Hi Ash I expect that the leak is on a joint between sections of gutter if the gutter itself is not split. The repair will depend on the material your guttering is made from. Cast iron guttering rely on a jointing putty and a nut and bolt fixing to make the joint, if this is the case you should be able to re-make the original joint. If the gutter material is plastic then the best way to solve the problem would be to remove it and take it to a good builders merchant to match it. You can purchase roof and gutter sealant for use in a cartridge gun. Myself I would only consider this a temporary measure. Hope this has been helpful Kind Regards Lee Richards MCIPHE RP Water Trade Ltd

Hi Ash, Replacement depends on how old the gutter is as rubber seals can perish. Guttering is so in expensive now I generally opt for replacement. Cost can vary however a typical semi should be £150 / 200 per elevation for supply and fit including down pipes. If you are in the Lancashire area I would be happy to quote for the works. Assuming it is upvc guttering and not split it is likely to be the union which is the join where two lengths of guttering meet, as Luke has pointed out they have a rubber seal on which can fail with age, should this be the case the job is a very small one and easily resolved. Hello Ash, If the guttering is plastic then simply change it with a new joint. If it's cast iron then take it apart clean and reseal with putty mixed with paint. Regards Michael

I would recommend changing the gutters. It may only be a union, but chances are if they are of a certain age they will need replacing. It is not a big job, but I would recommend getting it done asap. Hope this helps. Simon class A roofing

Hi, without seeing the gutter it would be very difficult to see what the problem is, more than likely on your situation it probably could be repaired if not split

Luke Newton

Do not use a gutter sealant, they are only a temp repair, change the union, more than likely rubber diteriated or dislodged. Luke Roofing Northwest

All depends what type of material it is made from. Cast will be cheaper to repair. Plastic will be easy to replace Danny Rainguard roofing

hi Ash, some more information would be useful. I assume it is plastic gutter? if, as you say, the gutter is not split then the leak is most likely from a joint. if so you may be able to reseal the joint (sealants available from DIY sheds) but it may be better to replace the fitting if you can identify the make. hope this helps. regards, pete.
