Replacing Flagstones with Grass

Posted by Caroline Hunt, on
Our back garden is currently flagstones and we are looking to replace this with grass and redo the decking. When would be the best time to do this?

Hi Caroline Any time from now on is good.If you want it done for the summer then best to get the process underway and get at least 3 quotes from reputable landscapers now and choose the right one for your project. Its starting to get into the busy months now and the best can be booked up very quickly.

Hi Caroline, My advice would be to wait until spring if seeding, as the consistent rain that we're experiencing at the moment and the lack of sun will not help the grass to grow. If you're planning on turfing the area then it would be fine to do it now. The decking can be done at any time, however if there is any part of the decking that will need a concrete base laying then it would be better to wait for another month or two, to avoid the fresh concrete from cracking with any frost. Hope this helps, Steve

Hi Caroline. I'd say now is probably the best time to do your garden as the rainfall and temperature we get at the moment will be better for the turf you lay rather than the heat of the summer and using a hose to keep the turf watered will keep costs down as well of course. The turf will be fine laying it now, don't worry about it not growing that fast because grass hardly grows this time of year but it won't die off. Hope this helps. Regards Dwayne Busby's Landscapes

Hello Caroline, The best time to re-turf your lawn is during this early part of the year as it is less stressful for the new turf rather then in the middle of summer when dry weather can cause die back. The decking can be dealt with at any time of the year. I hope this has helped you and if there is anything I can help you with further by all means contact me through rated people. thanks Richard Grounds care maintenance

Hi Caroline, i cant answer when you should replace the grass as i'm a carpenter, but in regards to your decking this can be done any time of the year but from my experience you will find the buying decking in the winter is cheaper than buying it in the summer.Good luck Joe

If you dont have to do it now then my advise is to hold until Spring. As a proff company you cannot rotivate and level in these current conditions its too wet and muddy and also if the temps drop and there is a frost before the turf has rooted you will need another lawn laid.

My advise is to wait until March if turfing but if reseeding then wait till ground warms up in April. Decking anytime
