Macerator: repair or replace?

Posted by James Shenton, on
I have a Saniflo Saniplus (LA03-P30) macerator, about 5-6 years old. It has recently been working continuously (it sounds like there might be a blockage). I tried following instructions on Saniflo website (to put bleach in and leave for 1-2 hours). Not sure this was the best advice. My question is: do I repair or replace the macerator? If replace, would you recommend Saniflo or another product? It is installed in a confined space so dimensions would need to match my current Saniplus. Thanks

Hi James Your macerator is out of guarantee so if you have technical knowledge you would be able to unblock your self. Go to saniflo website and there are instruction manuals for macerators download one and carry on what it sais there. Do not forget to drain it out first as all waste and extrements will flood your floor Best regards Rafal

Hi, first of all, is your waste pipework running outside and is it insulated ? The freezing weather can easily cause problems for uninsulated Saniflo waste pipework. It's more than likely jusy blocked though, I charge £120 to clear them but the danger is yhat there maybe damage uneconomical to repair and then you're looking at approx £ 500 to supply and fit new. Good luck. Lyndon.

Saniflo are the best manufacturers of macerators. They offer an engineer service to sort out problems. That would be my first port of call and I would say it is worth getting it repaired. Regards Tony

Hi James, firstly you need to turn the power to the macerator off if you can as you may run the risk of burning out the motor. secondly the problem sounds like a blockage in the pipe work, this needs to be unblocked/pipe replaced before turning the macerator back on. your current macerator should be fine after this. if you do decide to change the macerator then saniflo are generally the best. Hope thats of some help. James
