Hi Olwen Check your stop tap fitst an any other taps which can insulate water then let us to know what kind of system you have if it's gravity combi or pressurise hot water cylinder. Do not listen about any rubbish such as an air lock as water if it is gravity will push air out without any problems as mains water is over than 3 bars Tegards Rafal

Sounds as though you have a airlock in your pipes. You will need to have the air cleared before the water runs again.
