Plumbing

Posted by Alix Bedford, on
I have over 10 years experience in plumbing and heating. I was trained for 6 years by an ex British Gas engineer. I'm very confident and good at my job. My current situation is that the chap i worked with has now retired so I'm unemployed. I want to do my plumbing and heating but cant afford to get my qualification and need them to get employed with a plumbing company. My question is, Would a plumbing company take me on without my qualifications.

Hi Alix although qualifications are important these days it's still only a piece of paper and is no match for relevant site experience, it would be worth contacting a local college to see what they can do to help you gain a qualification. It sounds like you were working for an experienced plumber for sometime, has he got any contacts who might take you on? What about trade contacts you have built up yourself? If you have got the skills to do the job, i'm sure someone will take you on it's just a matter of keep trying. Experienced tradesmen can be assessed on site to gain an NVQ. Hope this helps.Ed

Hi Alix If you can proof them that you have worked as plumber it should not be a problem. I would suggest to get formal letter from previous employer Regards and good luck Rafal

All firms will take a hard working trainee. As long as you have the right attitude you'll be fine.
