Shower tray installation

Posted by Shuva Dey, on
Hi, My builder is doing ensuite bathroom in my mum and dad's loft conversion. Entire floor has been tiled and hole in tile for shower waste. It looks like there is drainage in place running underneath floor. I can see a slight intrusion of pipe above surface of tiled floor. I know modern showers have access to drainage from top but is there potentially any problem with having drainage under floor in case of any future issues...would mean tiled floor coming out...unlikely I know...but...you never know. Advice appreciated. Thanks.

Hi there Shuva, as long as the drainage is tested prior to installing your shower tray you shouldn't have any problems. The shower tray itself will have to be fitted properly, get your builder to make sure that the drainage is correct for installation e.g. Pipe bore and situ. This is vital to correct operation! Unfortunately, if you ever do have future problems with the shower tray pipework, the means of access to this would be resolved from the downstairs ceiling space. But like I have said, as long as the drainage is tested prior to installation you shouldn't have any issues! I hope this helps! JIRELAND PLUMBER
