What is causing reappearing persistent damp patches in utility alcove?

Posted by Neil Jepson, on
In an alcove where we are keeping our washing machine and tumble dryer, damp patches appear. When we first moved in (early 2015) the alcove was injected by a damp proofing company. It made no difference. We recently re-plastered the walls with damp proof plaster but within weeks the significant damp spots and salts have returned. We're not sure if this is important, but old pipes run through one of the walls into a shower in the bathroom next door. But there do not appear to be pipes in the other wall. I would like to post pictures because it's very easy to then see what I'm trying to describe. If anyone would like to see them to advise on this, I would be very happy to email them through. And then we can discuss how to resolve this once and for all! All the best and any thoughts will be much appreciated. All the best, Neil

If you post pics so we can have a look. If the wall is damp you need to find the water source, take all the plaster off the wall, fit a damp proofing membrane this is basically thin bumpy plastic before replastering. Does the wall that the damp is on back on to the shower? If so the shower may be leaking or may not have been fitted with a waterproofing system allowing the water to get trough the wall. If you post the picture that will be a start to finding the problem.
