BLEEDING RADIATORS

Posted by SANDIE WYATT, on
Hi, The radiators in my house have the bleed nuts at the rear (not on the ends unfortunately). On the double radiators there are 2 bleed nuts: one on the rear panel on the inner right hand side and one on the front panel on the inner left hand side. Question: (answer will be obvious to you!) which way do I turn the nuts to let out the air? Also, some of the bleed nuts seem to be stuck. Any ideas on how to loosen them? Many thanks

Hi sandie unfortunately these type of air vents can be a bit troublesome being that they go directly into the rad rather than in a bleed but on the end of a rad Be carful because if it shears off you will be in a pickle if they appear to be stuck it could just be a build up of paint around them you could try chipping that off with a small screwdriver or something similar If you have success it’s righty tight lefty loose remember if they are a the back of the rad you are working back to front Good luck

Sandie... anti-clockwise. In relation to a stuck bleed point (air point) if there is discolouration resembling rust, do not touch it. If these are forced they can snap and you will have a leak. If not, be very careful when loosening. I hope this helps! J Ireland Plumber
