Neighbor hearing banging on their stopcock when we use water

Posted by David Byrne, on
Our neighbor has complained to us that they hear a banging noise in their downstairs toilet (where their stopcock is located) when we use water in our house. Apparently it just started happening out of the blue. We can't hear anything in our house, either in the pipes or in the walls. From what I have read I suspect they have a faulty stopcock, but they are fixated that the problem must be on our side. We have had two plumbers come to inspect our house. Neither was able to diagnose the problem, the last suggested installing a water hammer arrestor next to our stopcock and if that doesn't work install one next door in the same location, next to their's. Will this actually solve the problem, is their a better way of solving it? We both live in terrace houses build in the 50's or 60's.

David... this is a process of elimination unfortunately. I suggest installing arresters in both properties along with pressure reducing valves (if not fitted) then taking it from there I hope this helps! J Ireland Plumber
