Flat roof at back of property isn't inclined enough so water collects

Flat roof at back of property isn't inclined enough so water collects a couple inches instead of draining via a hole in the surrounding wall. Is this a problem?

Ryan's on the ball, but I would get the roofer that constructed this roof to put it right, You shouldn't have rainwater laying against your building at all Best Regards Dene Workman Building & Roofing

Hi Tom, Years ago asphalt covered roofs were constructed to hold water but hardly anymore, unless its on a green roof to keep the water out of the drainage system as much as possible, Just like the one we did at The Centre for Alternative Technologies in mid Wales (see pictures in our gallery). A minimum fall of 1in80 is now required which would be easily achievable once the roof has been stripped back to joists. To give peace of mind why not consider a second skin waterproofing system like Prelasti EPDM a synthetic rubber sheet which is purpose made to fit your flat roof (or pond for that matter) that is bonded to the existing covering. As it is completely impervious to water any ponding is not a problem and you get a watertight 20 year guarantee! Rgds Mick ARRC Ltd Safer, Faster and Longer Lasting Waterproofing (Since 1993)
