Leak around chimney breast

Theres a leak around my chimney breast, resulting in a wet wall, chimney breast and ceiling mostly down one side of the chimney. Ive had a roofer round who put flashing round the chimney & covered the flat roof with something to plug any leaks but it didnt work. What might be wrong?

Hello Jo, It sounds like you have a pointing problem, also the integrity of your roofer sounds in question, I don't know of many proper roofers who would recommend coating the flat roof, as most of the time it is very hit and miss(mostly miss) I recommend you post your job on Ratedpeople and get 3 genuine 5star roofers to look and quote for you. There could be a number of problems from cracked brickwork to slipped tiles you need to have an inspection around chimney area checking all tiles chimney pots brickwork and internal inspection inside loft space
